2019 Achievements
Here's just a sampling of some of the projects we've worked on over the past year.

In 2019 we began the season with 6 weeks of winter damage assessments and remediation. We assessed 13 watercourses and performed maintenance on 267 structures. Those structures include: digger logs, deflectors, rock sills, bank stabilization, and channel blockers. After maintenance was completed, we had successfully restored a habitat length of 11,112.70 meters.
After maintenance was completed, we then moved on to our main project located in MacLeod’s Settlement where we built all new structures by hand. This habitat restoration project took 13 weeks and was split up between two different watercourses located in the Mabou Harbour Watershed. The first watercourse we worked on was MacLeod’s Brook. In that stream we built a total of 37 structures; those being digger logs, deflectors, digger logs with deflectors, rock sills, and brush bundles. In that brook, we had restored 2.81 kilometers of fish habitat and an area 22,500 squared meters.

The other watercourse we had restored was the Southwest Mabou River. We installed 8 structures which include deflectors and a bank stabilization structure. The total length & are of stream restored was 800 meters & 12,800 m2. ISAA plans to continue the habitat restoration on this river in the 2020 season! In total we had built 45 new structures and restored 3,612.5 meters of stream.
